Assessment and Treatments
Athlete’s foot
This is an infectious condition presenting as itchy, flaking skin. Although it is frequently found between the toes, Athlete’s foot can also occur elsewhere on the foot. A low grade infection may not be itchy and might be difficult to spot.
Our recommendation
To avoid Athlete’s foot, don’t go barefoot in communal areas. Ensure you dry thoroughly between the toes.
Athlete’s foot is usually treated with antifungal creams or sprays. If left untreated the fungus can spread to the toenails, which are more difficult to treat.
It is important that hosiery and footwear are concurrently treated to prevent re-infection.
